[Message to client: Your website says that seventeen is the legal age for moped riding, however on the government’s website it says sixteen].

Additional Things to be Aware of

Don’t forget that CBT training isn’t an exam, so you should not be daunted by it. Actually, it is intended to relax you and be enjoyable, because that is the best way to learn — despite the fact that you are forced to do it. There is no stress, and you do not need to progress to any module until you are prepared.

Motorbike Theory & Practical Test

After your teacher is happy that you can ride your motorbike competently and safely, a DL196 Certificate or CBT Certificate will be issued to you. Then, you can progress to training for a complete motorbike licence in one of the four different categories. To obtain a licence in a category, you require a provisional motorbike or moped licence. Also, you need to pass a theory & practical test, normally with one to four days of training in between. This test has multiple choice questions, which you complete at your closest DSA exam center.

You might be thinking ‘what will this cost me?’. This is dependent on the amount of training you require — different people require different amounts. In all likelihood, the price will vary from £200 to train for one day, to £750 to train for four days. Check กล่องหลัง กล่องข้าง.

The four motorbike licence categories and Accelerated Access option are as follows:

1. Licence for a Moped. You have to be at least seventeen to apply for a moped licence. Mopeds are bikes with engine capacities no bigger than fifty cc, and are able to reach maximum speeds of roughly thirty-one mph. You need to successfully complete the theory exam, prior to starting your training. Then, you will complete the practical exam at a DSA testing center. After this, you do not need L plates to ride a moped, and carrying a pillion passenger is permitted.

2. A1 Light Motorbike Licence. To acquire this licence, you need to be at least seventeen, and have completed CBT. If you don’t have a licence for a moped already, you must take a theory exam and obtain a provisional licence. After you have finished the training, you need to complete your practical exam on a bike with a seventy-five cc to 125 cc engine capacity. Once you have successfully completed it, you are permitted to ride bikes of up to eleven kW or 125 cc capacity. Carrying a pillion passenger is allowed as well.

3. A2 Limited Standard Motorbike Licence. If you want a larger machine to ride, you should opt for a standard motorbike licence. Seventeen to twenty year olds need to obtain the A2 limited licence. Once more, you require CBT and have to pass the theory exam and get a provisional motorbike licence, if you have not passed your moped test. After this, you can undergo suitable training to pass the practical exam. The practical exam has to be completed on a motorbike between 120 cc and 125 cc capacity, that can reach a minimum speed of 100 kph. When you have passed this, you do not need L plates to ride a motorbike and carrying a passenger is permitted. Nonetheless, for a couple of years, you can only ride machines with an output of up to thirty-three bhp or twenty-five kW, and a 0.16 kW/kg power to weight ratio. Once this period has passed, you are free to ride all machines, with no further exams or training.

4. The Accelerated Access Option. If you turn twenty-one during the period where you can only ride certain machines, Accelerated Access comes in handy. This enables you to complete your practical exam on a motorbike with a forty-seven bhp or thirty-five kW power output. After you have passed, you are issued with a complete licence before the waiting period elapses.

5. Unlimited Category A – Direct Access. If you are at least twenty-one years old, and have completed the theory exam and CBT, you are allowed to take the practical exam on a motorbike with an output of forty-seven bhp. You can prepare for this exam on a motorbike of this type, as long as you wear fluorescent gear and have a certified Direct Access teacher with you. After you successfully complete the exam, you can use any motorbike with no L plates, and carrying a passenger is permitted.

Lastly, don’t forget that you will need to retake your CBT, if you fail to pass your practical and theory exam within twenty-four months of completing it.
